June 2017 saw the opening of The Viking Voyage at Tayto Park, near Dublin. BSTE were responsible for providing the special effects on this spectacular new attraction and would thank everyone at the park for allowing us to make a truly thrilling ride even more special!
With 1.7 million liters of water, a Viking village, 5 replica Viking ships and 20 life size Vikings, families can expect to feel the splash on the latest addition to Ireland’s favourite theme park and zoo. Over 10,000 tons of steel have gone into the construction of the rider, with staff learning the building methods from the Viking age creating a truly authentic experience.
Back Stage Technologies provided wind machines and fragrance machines (creating the authentic aroma of wood smoke from camp fires and rotten fish from the fish market. The experience was further enhanced by numerous flickering candle simulators which are IP rated and low-voltage.
Outside BSTE installed various water cannons and geysers that simulate under-water explosions and Viking arrow hits and can reach up to 10m in height.
Turbulent water was created by two 5-meter under-water manifolds each with 30 nozzles that run from a giant 3-phase submersible pump making the water in the lake appear to boil as if the defeated Viking ships were sinking.
BST also installed numerous waterfalls, that are controlled by sensors so that when the ride vehicle passes the sensor it stops the water and the passengers from getting soaked, before restarting again for the next boat. Other waterfalls have been installed cascading down rock faces to enhance the theme throughout this ride
