The Back Stage Technologies BHF-1 bullet hit

Installation

The BHF-1 bullet hit (floor) is designed to be installed in a floor or stage horizontal support structure. The small, 15mm, nozzle then protrudes through the wall such that it is flush with the visible side of the floor. As the nozzle is so small it is barely visible to an audience. The unit is then connected to a compressed air supply and cue trigger. The cue trigger can be a contact closure, low-voltage signal or DMX (specified when ordering).

Operation

The filler cap, on the top of the bullet hit (floor), is removed and the unit filled with the media (Fullers earth or Bentonite). The cap should not be replaced until the firing is complete. When the unit is fired, the media is forced out of the output nozzle in an explosive manner giving the illusion that the floor has been hit with a bullet. Changing the amount of media or the air pressure results in a different effect.

By installing multiple units, and triggering them in sequence, a strafing run can be simulated, i.e., a machine gun hit.

Reloading

As the unit is reloaded by simply pouring the media into the output nozzle. To reload, isolate the compressed air supply first. Unscrew the loading cap (if fitted). Add the desired amount of media and you are ready to fire. The loading cap is only in place to protect the device when not in use. The cap should be removed before each use.

Construction

The Bullet Hit is constructed from 316 stainless steel so is completely rust proof and is epoxy powder coated. The unit can also be used to fire a shot of water, in place of the powder media.

The standard bullet hit is fired by the momentary application of a 24V DC control voltage. Alternatively, the DMX-HUB-1 can be used to the fire the unit via DMX512.
