HB-16 Heat Blast | Back Stage Technologies Europe was primarily designed for use in theme park dark rides and 4D cinema applications where a short-duration burst of warm air was needed to compliment a specific scene and where short-wave infra-red heat effects were not suitable due to their visible light output.
Any heat effect that is not “direct” requires considerable power to achieve a noticeable result, hence the HBS-16 effect starts at 16kW.
The HBS-16 can be driven by compressed air or an electric blower (provided). The system includes the main effect head (shown), 3-phase blower, variable LCD temperature control, DMX control interface and over-heat safety systems to protect the heater element should the air supply fail.
The main effect head can be mounted in any orientation. The system can be floor or ceiling mounted.
Due to the extreme temperatures produced by the HBS-16, care should be taken to ensure adequate ventilation is provided around the effect head and that it is installed in a location such that it cannot be touched by any persons.
Air temperatures of 650°C can be achieved immediately in front of the nozzle although in normal use a temperature of 40-45°C is sufficient to achieve a noticeable effect on the faces of guests. The effective range of the HBS-16 is therefore between 1.5 and 2.0m from the audience. If the device needs to be further away than 2.0m, then the HBS-36 should be considered.
The HBS-16 is designed to run continually and the effect is deflected away from the audience by means of a pneumatic deflection plate. It is important that sufficient HVAC is provided in the building to accommodate this effect and to remove residual heat.
